Swostishree Successfully Organizes Open Road Race

Located at Sanobharyang, Kathmandu, Swostishree Gurukul IB World School has successfully organized a road race for enthusiastic students with the motto, “Run for National Peace ''.

The race which was inaugurated by Mr. Baikuntha Manandhar, one of the most prominent runners and an Olympian in marathons, was started at 8:05 a.m. right after a short zumba session led by school dance teacher Miss Rubi Lama. The race had a participation of around 246 male and female students from different schools and institutions.

The grand closing ceremony was attended by Mr. Baikuntha Manandhar, a former olympic runner, as the chief guest along with a list of celebrated and respected invitees. The list included the chairperson of Nagarjun Municipality ward no. 2 Mr. Thumraj K.C., General Secretary of Nepal Olympic Association Mr. Nilendra Shrestha, PABSON chairman Mr. D. K. Dhungana, marathon runners Mr. Ramkrishna Maharjan, Yuvaraj Sunuwar and Buddhavir Lama, school football ambassador and former national football team captain Mr. Anil Gurung and the officers of Nepal Police and Nepal Traffic Police. The program was headed by honorable member of Bagmati Pradesh Assembly Mr Ramkrishna Chitrakar, while the welcome speech was delivered by the school principal Miss Neha KC.

The competition, intended for the students under the age of 16, was divided into boy’s and girl’s categories. Himal Adhikari won the boy’s race with a time of 19:05:01 minute while Dipendra Bohara and Sanam Sherpa grabbed the 2nd and the 3rd positions with the timings of 19:56:99 minute and 20:04:23 minute respectively, in a competition in which the distance allocation was set at 5km and 3km for boys and girls respectively. In the girl’s competition, Bimala Karki, Doma Budha and Ohana Karki grabbed the first, second and the third positions with the timings of 15:09 minute, 15:10 minute and 15:25 minute respectively. Runners who secured positions from the 4th through 10th were, Badal Karki, Hasta Sunar, Chakka Rokaya, Rohit Bote, Gautam Rai, Sujal Syagtan and Roshan Shrestha respectively while on the girls side Anushiya Tandukar, Aaishma Aacharya, Asmita Thapa, Aayusha Rai, Bhavana Nath, Manita Lama and Mina Gharti Magar secured the consolation prizes for securing the positions from the 4th through 10th. Winners were given medals, certificates and cash prizes of 25,000, 20,000, 15,0000 and 5000 for securing 1st through 10th positions respectively.

In the closing ceremony, the chief guest emphasized the importance of the environment in the holistic development of the students and added that discipline and dedication in every walk of life is really important for students. Special guest and ward chairperson mentioned the involvement of the school in effective programs and promised to help the school in similar initiatives. Chief guest Mr. Baikuntha Manadhar was felicitated by Honorable member Mr. Ramkrishna Chitrakar for the former’s contribution in the sport while all the special guests were felicitated by the school managing director Miss Mina Maharjan Chitrakar. Students duo Ishanvi Pandey and Samman K.C. conducted the program while the event was supervised by the school ECA coordinator Mr. Rakesh Kumar Rai.
